Cabin shells, lofted barns, and storage buildings for deer camp in Texas: what to put on your lease or land, sizes, rural delivery, county rules, and timing.

Looking at hunting cabins for sale in Texas before the season? Archery season is already open, and TPWD lists the North Zone general white-tailed deer season from Nov. 7, 2026 to Jan. 3, 2027 (see the 2026-2027 hunting season dates for your county). A portable building at camp gives you a dry place to sleep, a spot to store feeders and corn, and a porch to sit on before first light.

What hunters put at camp

  • A cabin shell with a porch: a dry, lockable place to sleep and change, with a covered porch for boots and coffee. See our cabins and porch models.
  • A lofted barn for gear: feeders, corn, blinds, and stands on the floor, with decoys and seasonal gear up in the loft. See lofted barns.
  • A storage shed for the side-by-side and tools: a Utility shed with double doors keeps ATVs, chainsaws, and fuel cans out of the weather.
  • A shell you finish over time: many families start with a bare shell and add bunks, insulation, and power season by season.

Choosing a size for deer camp

  • Two to four hunters: a 12×20 to 12×32 cabin shell leaves room for bunks, a table, and gear along one wall.
  • Bigger groups or family camps: 14×40 and 16×40 shells give room for a sleeping area and a common room.
  • Gear-only buildings: a 10×16 to 12×20 lofted barn holds feeders, corn, and stands with room to walk.

Our shed sizes guide lists every size by style. Tape out the floor plan on the ground before you choose.

Getting a building onto the lease

Rural delivery is mostly about the route. Before delivery day, check:

  • Gates: measure the narrowest gate on the way in.
  • Ground: a dry, firm path, with no soft spots after rain.
  • Clearance: low limbs and power lines along the route.
  • The pad: a level spot, a little higher than the ground around it so water drains away.

Our delivery checklist walks through each one. Delivery and setup are included up to 50 miles from our Corinth sales lot or Corsicana yard; farther out, delivery is quoted with your building.

Check county rules

Most hunting land sits outside city limits, where county rules apply. Several Central Texas counties we serve don’t list a building permit for sheds outside city limits, but they do require floodplain permits in flood zones and septic (OSSF) permits for any new system, and addressing rules vary. Our town pages quote what each county publishes and link to the office: Fairfield (Freestone County), Centerville (Leon County), Mexia (Limestone County), Kerens (Navarro County). If you lease, check with the landowner too before a building goes in.

Timing and paying for it

Every building is made to order, so talk to us early about timing if you want it in place for the opener or the late season (TPWD lists the Special Late season as Jan. 4-17, 2027). Want to spread out the cost? Rent-to-own has no credit check and 36- to 72-month terms.
