Buy a Shed From the Lot or Order Custom? How to Choose
Ready-built shed from the lot or a made-to-order building? How each works, when each makes sense, and what to check on a lot building before you buy.

When you shop for a shed, you can buy a ready-built building from a sales lot or order one built to your choices. Every building we sell is made to order, and our lots also have buildings on display you can walk through. Here’s how to decide which way to go.
Ready-built buildings on the lot
Buildings on a sales lot are finished and ready to see in person.
- See it first: walk inside, check the door width, and look at the loft or shelving before you buy.
- Compare styles side by side: a utility building, a lofted barn, and a cabin model on the same lot.
- Ask what’s available: call ahead, because lot buildings change as they sell.

Made to order
A made-to-order building is built with the choices you make:
- Size: every size by style is in our shed sizes guide, and you can ask about sizes that aren’t listed.
- Colors: 12 siding and trim colors.
- Doors and windows: 36″ solid or 9-lite doors, and 2×3, 3×3, or 5-lite transom windows.
- Inside: custom workbenches and shelving.

Which one fits?
- Choose a lot building if one matches the size and style you need and you want to see it before you buy.
- Order custom if you need a specific size, color combination, or door and window layout for your property.
Before you buy any building
- Measure your site and tape out the footprint at full size.
- Check the route: gates, overhead lines, and soft ground. Use the delivery checklist.
- Check local rules with your city or county. Our town pages link to the official offices.
Delivery and setup are included up to 50 miles, and you can ask about rent-to-own on any building.
