Shed Delivery Checklist: How to Get Your Property Ready
Getting a portable building delivered? A checklist for the route, gate, overhead clearance, ground, and building site so delivery day goes smoothly.

Most portable buildings arrive finished on a truck and trailer, so delivery depends on the path from the street to the building site. A few measurements and photos before you order make delivery day much smoother. Use this checklist to walk your property.
1. Pick the building site first
Choose where the building will sit before you plan anything else. Think about how you’ll use it every day: a mower shed near the driveway, a workshop close to power, a barn near the pasture gate. Ask your city or county, and your HOA if you have one, whether there are setback or placement rules for your lot before you settle on a spot.
2. Walk the route from the street
Start at the street and walk to the building site the way the truck would. Note every turn, and look for anything that narrows the path.
3. Measure gates and openings
Measure every gate, fence opening, and gap between structures the building has to pass through. Write the numbers down and take a photo of each one.
4. Look up
Overhead power lines, phone and cable lines, low branches, roof eaves, and carports can all block a tall building. Note anything low along the route.
5. Check the ground
Soft ground, steep slopes, ditches, septic systems, and sprinkler lines can all affect how close a truck can get. After heavy rain, ground that looks firm can turn soft. Mark septic tanks, field lines, and sprinkler heads so they can be avoided.
6. Plan a level site
The building needs a level, stable base. Ask your shed company what they expect the site to look like and who handles leveling or blocks. Clear the site of debris, stumps, and anything stored there.
7. Send photos and measurements
Photos of the route, the gate, and the site, along with your measurements, help the delivery team spot problems early. Send them with your order details.
8. On delivery day
- Move vehicles, trailers, and equipment out of the path.
- Keep pets and kids inside or well clear.
- Unlock gates and mark the exact spot and direction you want the doors to face.
- Be there, or have someone there, to answer questions.
