Outside city limits (unincorporated Wise County): Wise County does not require building permits. Land in a city's ETJ may fall under that city's platting rules, so check with City Hall. In a flood hazard area, a county Floodplain Development Permit is required before work starts. A new driveway onto a county road needs a driveway permit and a county-approved culvert at the owner's expense, and new rural addresses come from the county 911 Addressing Coordinator.
