Inside New Fairview city limits: the city's permit list includes storage sheds of 144 sq ft or more. Zoning Sec. 24 limits portable or storage buildings to 320 sq ft and 12 ft tall, 5 ft from side and rear lines and from the house, and out of easements; metal kit buildings are allowed under 168 sq ft if secured against overturning. Accessory buildings need a main building on the lot and stay 10 ft from other buildings, and the code says the Sec. 24.2 rules don't apply to agricultural barns. The city runs its own septic program and contracts inspections to Atlas Municipal Services.

Outside city limits (unincorporated Wise County): Wise County does not require building permits. Land in a city's ETJ may fall under that city's platting rules, so check with City Hall.
